I just recently made a back-up of one of my DVDs, but realized something strange. For starters, I had ImgBurn burn the ISO file to a blank DVD and verify the disc after the burning was complete, but the verification was not successful because of a miscompare. Here is the log below...

If anyone can explain how or why the first verification failed, but the second verification attempt was a success I would greatly appreciate that. Thank you for reading!

The media you're using is dodgy at best and the drive may have misread the sector due to the disc being hot. If you took the disc out then put it back in the drive may also have chosen to use a more adequate laser power to read the disc. It could also be caused by a bad filter driver (look in ImgBurn's Tools menu).

There's a very small chance that it could be due to system memory problems, but you'd have noticed programs crashing, BSODs and reboots.

I have been using this media for months now and I have never experienced anything like this before. I checked for firmware updates for my drive and it still has the latest firmware. I then did some snooping around on the internet and found that the lens on my burner could be dirty. Do you think using a lens cleaner might help? I believe Memorex makes discs that have little brushes on them. If you think trying this is a good idea or a bad idea then please let me know. Thank you.

I think the problem could be related to the media you're using, and I don't think a cleaning disc would help since that's a pretty new burner and it's unlikely that its lens are dirty already.

You do have a good point. My drive is fairly new so the lens shouldn't be dirty. Hhhhmmmm.....it looks like I'm going to experiment with some new media then. Thanks a lot for the help! I will be sure to post back here when I finally find a solution to this :)
