taursu Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I've probably burned somewhere arround 30 discs, allways TDK DVD+R DL. Today i bought a new pack with the same kind of discs as mentioned. And I recieve a power calibration area error. I've tryed with different writespeeds, cleaning the lens, uninstaling SPTD, uninstalling all virtual drives etc. I even bought a second pack of discs Traxdata DVD+R DL. But, the same error occurs every time, writing isn't even initiated. The log follows: I 21:29:51 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! taursu Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 BTW. The computer is a Acer Aspire 5920G, the drive is a Matshita BD UJ-120. Ive found no firmware-updates for this drive. Its allmost brand new. I will be trying out Verbatim discs allso, but can't understand why in the one moment I can write 20 DL discs with no problems, and in the next which is now I can't.
mmalves Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I 21:29:55 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 2,4x) Those blanks are rated for 8x burning and your burner only offers 2.4x, which means it's probably using a generic write strategy, i.e. it doesn't really support those blanks. The blanks you've used before may have a different dye that your burner supports (you can check their Disc ID with ImgBurn in Write mode).

Hey, thanks for the answer, the discs I've used before was allso 8x. I have ordered verbatim 8x discs, then those probably wont work either?
spinningwheel Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I have ordered verbatim 8x discs, then those probably wont work either? Depends on how your drives' firmware handles the MID info of the Verbs you ordered. you can check their Disc ID with ImgBurn in Write mode

taursu Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Disc ID on the TDK discs that worked says: MBIPG101-R10-65 On the TDK ones that didn't work it says: RITEK-S04-66 Traxdata disc id allso says: RITEK-S04-66 What does this mean? Edited December 16, 2009 by taursu
taursu Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) I went back to the store and returned the TDK Ritek discs, and got a new spindle with tdk discs with disc id: MBIPG101-R10-65. I really thought I had found the problem, but the MBIPG-discs allso produce a Power calibration area error. Edited December 16, 2009 by taursu
taursu Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 What the F... On 3th or 4th MBIPG-disc I try, I enabled OPC. And suddenly it would write.
spinningwheel Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I enabled OPC. And suddenly it would write OPC allows the drive to 'adjust' the laser as it burns for best performance, I leave it on all the time as the drives manufacturer designed it for that purpose. Your discs are still middle of the road at best. I strongly suggest that you invest in either Yaiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus and not have to worry about the quality or longevity of your media.
taursu Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 It turned out that only one out of ten discs would write without errors. Recieving verbatim discs tommorow.
