making me think that the 4x disc I bought is actually capable of 10x! for a moment I was thrilled! but that's too good to be true unfortunately.

 

my suggestion: move "(Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x)" to the end of the first line - that's what they mean isn't it? the supported speed of the DRIVE for this type of media, but they aren't the capabilities of the media itself.

Those are the write speeds reported by your burner as supported for that media when ImgBurn queried the burner for all the media information.

 

The burner's manufacturer might have seen fit that this media ID can be burned up to 10x, which isn't all that uncommon: we see it a lot with DVD+R DL media as well, e.g. Verbatim 2.4x rated DVD+R DL blanks can be burned at 8x on some burners. If you use Verbatim BD-R blanks it'll probably allow you to use the burner's fastest 12x BluRay burn speed

really? I might just risk one BD disc to test your theory! even 8x is much better than 4x, saving me 20 minutes per disc! (burn + verify)
