Bojo Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I would appreciate all help with this. Since a couple of weeks my discs from different DVD+R brands are wrongly recognized in imgburn as RW. When I burn a dvd imgburn wants to format the disc and I end up with a coaster. OS is windows 7 ultimate. What I tried: I installed DVDindentifier, this program reads the discs correctly as DVD+R. Imgburn reads the discs as DVD+RW, I tried other brands of discs and got the same problem. I have two Samsung S203H ata drives with the latest firmware. Both drives have the same problem so I assume it is a software problem or Windows? I do not think img burn is the cause since Nero also reads the discs as DVD+RW. I attached the log file untill ImgBurn came up with the question: this disc needs to be formatted before you can write to it. When I agree I end up with a coaster since it is a +R and not a +RW. I tried to find an answer in this forum but was unable to find any. Can anyone help me?? Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:INFOME-R30-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R] Manufacturer Name : [infomedia Inc.] Manufacturer ID : [iNFOME] Media Type ID : [R30] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x , 6x-16x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V5.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is from IMGBURN TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203P SB01 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+RW Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: Yes Formatted: No Free Sectors: 2.295.104 Free Space: 4.700.372.992 bytes Free Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 4x; 6x; 8x Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: INFOME-R30-00 Book Type: DVD+R Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 1 Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP) Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196.608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2.491.711 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0 Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: INFOME-R30-00 Book Type: DVD+R Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 1 Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP) Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196.608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2.491.711 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0 Format Capacities: DT: 0x01 - NB: 2295104 (0x00230540) - TDP: 2048 FT: 0x26 - NB: 2295104 (0x00230540) - TDP: 0 Performance (Write Speeds): Descriptor 1... -> B0: 0x00; B1: 0x00; B2: 0x00; B3: 0x00 -> EL: 2295103 (0x0023053F) -> RS: 16.620 KB/s (12x) - WS: 5.540 KB/s (4x) Descriptor 2... -> B0: 0x00; B1: 0x00; B2: 0x00; B3: 0x00 -> EL: 2295103 (0x0023053F) -> RS: 16.620 KB/s (12x) - WS: 8.310 KB/s (6x) Descriptor 3... -> B0: 0x00; B1: 0x00; B2: 0x00; B3: 0x00 -> EL: 2295103 (0x0023053F) -> RS: 16.620 KB/s (12x) - WS: 11.080 KB/s (8x) ImgBurn122109.log
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 It's your drive that's reporting it as DVD+RW, that's what it thinks the disc is. If discs using decent MID's (i.e. Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden) are reported as DVD+RW too, try the drive in aonther PC and perhaps invest in a new drive.

Thank you UK, I was wondering how the proces of reporting went. I have two drives of the same brand 6 months old and both give the same problem. It's possible the Samsung drives are not very good with the brand of disc I use. I will go out to buy the better discs as you suggest. Thanks.
