Hi,

I have a HP laptop with a Pioneer super-multi drive DVR K17B 1.02 (ATA), which used to work fine with Verbatim

DVD+R (4x and 16x) and DVD+RW disc's.

But some weeks ago, the drive would not burn correctly anymore, sometimes write errors in the middle of the burning process, graudualy increasing to fail every time I tried to burn something to a disc. However, the DVD+RW from brand SENTINEL-W02-00 still burned ok, though at lower speed.

But now it appears that even these DVD+RW can't be properly erased in the drive. I know it's not the disc, because it can be erased and burned perferctly on another drive.

Seems to me that the drive is allready crapy and at end of it's live or dirty, although it's not even 2 years old.

This is the erase log:

QUESTIONS:

- How to make sure it's not due to a dirty lens ?

- If so, can it be cleaned ?

- Could it be software related ?

- Any other suggestions ?

Best regards.

Might be the signs of a dying drive.

Could be worth a try with a cleaning disc. You can get one in of the shops that sells players & computers. Skip the expensive ones with trillions of functions. A simple one works very well.
