Timewarpone Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I really don't have any complaints or issues with using Image Burn 2.5.0 My concerns are with the burn speeds. I use Verbatim 8x DVD-R DataLifePlus P/N 94854 Discs made in Taiwan. I have a Sony Optiarc 24x Burner AD-7240S and A Lite-On LH-20A1s 20x burner. I can only burn as low as 4x with the Verbatims on the AD-7240S and as low as 2x With the Lite-on LH-20A1S. I know the Verbatims can burn as low as 1x. I updated both firmwares on both drives to the latest available but this had no effect on the burn speeds. Does anyone know of a DVD burner that will let me burn at 1x with imageburn?? No guessing please. I need the actual model number. My OS is Vista Ultimate 32x. Thank You in advance.
mmalves Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 My LG GSA-4081B from 2004 is able to burn those blanks at 1x, so all the burners from around that same time should also be able to burn those Verbatim blanks at 1x. But seriously, why do you want 1x? You have good burners and they make better burns on those blanks at 8x than an old burner would at 1x.

I have no problems with movies on either drive. I have burned 100's of discs at 20x & 24x without a single coaster. My concerns are with downloaded Wii games. I must have wasted about 30 or 40 discs in the last 4 or 5 weeks. I use nothing but Taiyo Yudens 8x DVD-R or Verbatim 8x DVD-R for downloaded Wii games. Every web site in existence, pertaining to Wii games, says to burn the iso image files with Imageburn. I could only burn at 4x on the Optiarc and 2x on the Lite-on. I just wanted to re-burn the files at a slower speed in hopes of cutting down on my waste. Thanks for the drive info. Happy New Year!!!
Cynthia Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 My concerns are with downloaded Wii games. I must have wasted about 30 or 40 discs in the last 4 or 5 weeks. What error message in ImgBurn do you get when you burn those?
Timewarpone Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 I never get an error message I guess I don't have any issues with Image Burn. Since all I burn Wii game downloads with is Image Burn, I wanted to know how I can burn at a slower speed than 4x because I am wasting a lot of discs. (I use Any DVD & Clone DVD for movies.) The discs I use can be used as low as 1x but I can't go lower than 4x (with the optiarc) or 2x (with the Lite-on) I was trying to figure out why I can't burn to the lowest speed offered by the Discs It can't be the firmware because I flashed each drive to the latest firmware with no change in results
Cynthia Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 In my opinion the 1x write (or write as slow as you drive can perform) suggestings that you can see on various boards is the joke of the century. It might have been true in the early days of DVD burning when the burner couldn't burn faster than 4-8x. I would also say that the Optiarc is a nicer burner than your Lite-On with DL media. My suggestion to know if the discs are burned good or not (they can be a joke even if you don't get any error messages in ImgBurn) is to do a quality scan of the burned discs in a program like Nero DiscSpeed, DVDInfoPro or Opti Drive Control. DVDInfoPro has a 30 days demo period. If you use this program; select 'Block' and set the speed to 4x in the 'Scan' option. Use your Lite-On for this purpose. This would inform you if the burn is good or not. Post the image of the scan and we can help you interpret the scan.
