Do I need data dvd's to reocrd 3 to 4 hours of material?

ImgBurn doesn't deal in 'hours of material'.

How big are the actual files?

You need a disc with a size that's equal to or larger than the size of the files you wish to put on it.

the white folders are 2.89gb and 3.99gb

the other folder with the disc on it is 8.23kb

Not sure what "white" folders are. The amount of size indicates that you need a double layer disc (DVD +R DL) if you want to burn all files on the same disc.

If you take a single layer disc as being able to hold 4.37GB of data and a double layer one as being able to hold 7.96GB, you can at least work that little bit out for youself.

If the 2 'white' folders you mentioned can be split between discs then you can just use 2 single layer ones. If they can't then you'll need a double layer one as Cynthia just said.
