nlptrainer Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Hi Folks, I've got a bunch of DVD+RW discs that somehow got tagged as +R. Unfortunately it looks like the burner will NOT let me reset the booktype as these +R discs can't be changed. Any idea how to force it? The sstem won't even let me reformat them. The drive is a philips OEM install in a dell PC (DVD8701 with the 5D24 FW - which I have not yet flashed to the latest) John
Cynthia Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I would update the firmware to the latest version to see if it's fixed in the new firmware version. Perhaps if you have access to another drive, try to re format the RW discs in that one.
nlptrainer Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 Problem solved... I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of the drive. 1) flashed firmware to latest (didn't solve problem on it's own) 2) removed all dvd drives from device manager 3) removed ide controller from device manager 4) shut down computer 5) unplug all power and data cables going to drives 6) system bios - disable ide controller (sata controller still enabled) 7) reboot into winxp (restart a couple times, run cc cleaner, etc) 8) system bios - enable ide controller & reboot into winxp 9) shut down and reconnect cables to dvd drives (1 at a time) and reboot so win reinstalls everything works Thanks for the help John
