Shamus_McFartfinger
I 23:09:53 Found 1 DVD-R! I 23:10:00 Destination Device: [1:0:0] SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A PDS7 (D:) (ATA) I 23:10:00 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: MCC-003-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x) That's weird. Your drive is being reported as -R which is probably why it's failing with +R media. A -/+ burner should be reported like this. I 12:46:43 ImgBurn Version 1.1.0.4 Beta started! I 12:46:43 Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195 : Service Pack 4) I 12:46:43 Initialising SPTI... I 12:46:43 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... LIGHTNING UK!
It all comes down to the firmware really, as to how the drive is identified. You're on the latest dell firmware but maybe a real liteon one would work better. You could try crossflashing as it certainly couldn't make things any worse! Assuming you've tried a range of QUALITY disc, it could also be that your drive has developed a fault.
Brian002100
What is crossflashing and how do I try this?
Shamus_McFartfinger
Crossflashing means changing the internal software (the firmware) to something other than your drive was originally released with. Your drive (a Sony DW-D56A) basically comes in two different flavours - Dell and Sony - which are pretty much the same drive except for the firmware. We know it's a Dell by the firmware version you provided with your logfile from above. Specifically, this bit: I 23:10:00 Destination Device: [1:0:0]SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A PDS7 (D:) (ATA) So, we know that the drive uses Dell firmware. What was suggested is to change it to a Sony drive by downloading and executing Sony firmware. It may ruin your drive, it may work perfectly and it may do nothing at all. As Lightning said above, attempting to modify it can't make it too much worse. The latest Sony firmware for your drive is version PFS3 which can be downloaded from the link below. ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/Downloads/SO/...00829906-UN.exe EDIT: For some more info (and possibly some more required tools for your drive), you might want to have a quick read of this thread. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=108852&page=
LIGHTNING UK!
I actually meant for you to convert it to what it really is.... a LiteOn drive.
Grain
It is probably your media. I got into a 50 disc spindle of Verbatim +R 8X discs a week ago, had 7 duff discs out of 15 so far. Same error as you've got, same media ID MCC-003-00. Have a look at where it quit burning on the disc, on mine it's burning not quite a GB, which translates into about a cm of burn. At the edge of where it quit burning, there are 1-2 dye "splashes"(looks like there was a tiny explosion in the disc), noticable to the naked eye. Nothing visible before burning though. Let us know if you see the same thing. Bot mine at Staples in Canada, I'll be taking up Verbatim on their lifetime warranty, also have a +R DL they're getting back, my Pioneer didn't do a nice job at 8X with it's new firmware. Shamus_McFartfinger
I actually meant for you to convert it to what it really is.... a LiteOn drive. Hence my hastily added second link. I probably should have mentioned that LiteOn make Sony drives. I shall now whip myself with celery until I'm forgiven.

Brian002100
Cant tell you about the discs because I have already thrown them away and have none left of that brand, but I did crossflash the drive and everything has worked fine since.
