Junk media, buy Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

Newer firmware available here: http://www.firmwarehq.com/BenQ/DW1620/files.html

That drive is getting on a bit now, it might benefit from a clean - or you could replace it.

Thanks for your help Lightning, and I appriciate your very quick response. As you suggested, I picked up some new media - Verbatim DVD+R and also downloaded and installed the newer firmware. I then used a CD/DVD drive cleaner (disk) to clean up the driver. And now.....when I tried to write a DVD, I'm getting the "Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)" message at the bottom of the window. Hmmmmm. Maybe the cleaner stirred up a lot of dust and it's become REALLY dirty? I tried playing a CD and it worked fine. Any ideas?

Thanks again for getting back to me so quick. I wish this thing would start working as fast! Anyway, I solved the no "media not present" thing by rebooting the computer - I thought maybe when I installed the firmware it needed to be restarted. Whatever, it worked. However, the end result is back to square 1:

Oh, and I tried a Monopoly game (original 'pressed' DVD-ROM disc) to see if it would read it and yes - it did.

I'm thinking my burner is burnt (out). What do you think?

Thanks Cynthia - I will try that the next time. Meanwhile, I'm downloading another video (same exact size) to see if it will work. I'm thinking maybe the file was buggered. Stay tuned......

The burner doesn't care about the data you're burning. It might be just dirty or worn out. A new burner is your best option.
