I have been using ImgBurn for the first time creating and burning ISO images, after successfully using it in conjunction with DVD Flick for some time to burn AVI, MP4 etc. When burning ISOs I set the write speed to 4X based on advice I had seen somewhere (maybe even this forum!). I had used 2X to burn the AVIs etc.

I was burning ISOs onto both Sony DVD+R's and Verbatim DVD+R DL's, with never a problem; and prior to this, also burning AVIs etc onto the Sony disks, again with never a problem. I am using the same burner throughout, and have not changed anything else.

I now attempted to go back and do some of those files (MP4, AVI etc) again - and I am getting an error message as follows:

W 07:16:29 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 2,770 KB/s (2x), Got: 5,540 KB/s (4x)

(This is preceded in the log by a yellow [!] alert)

This is a screenshot of the ImgBurn working at the time (right click to open full size in a new screen):

th_98033_ImgBurnworking_122_753lo.jpg

Even if I manually set ImgBurn back to 2X before opening DVD Flick, I still get this error.

The effect of this error in the finished DVD seems to be a jumpiness of the image. It plays 'okay' but the image is unstable.

Any help appreciated!

It's not an error, it's a warning, and it's happening most likely because the slowest speed your burner supports burning that media at is 4x, which isn't uncommon for a fast burner like that with 16x rated media like that.

If you play that disc on the computer using a software DVD player, is it still jumpy? You might want to try burning at 8x or 12x to see if you get a better quality burn.

Oh, and next time please post the log of the burn.

If I play the disk with VLC Media Player in my computer, it is fine. It is only on my DVD player that it has a strange effect - which is basically an intermittent 'shivering' of vertical lines on the screen. (In other words, if for example a grid of bookshelves appears on screen, the vertical supports of the shelving unit 'shiver' for a second or two, settle down, and then shiver again).

Seems it is to do with compatibility with my player. It is not something I have usually experienced, and it occurs on several tracks on the disk, so my suspicion is that it it something to do with this particular burn process.

Do I understand correctly that I would enhance the likelihood of a stable burn result by using a *faster* burn speed?

Thanks for the other info - I will certainly keep a full log for future queries. I did these burns at a time when other things were busy and didn't get to do that this time :( Is it possible to retrieve a log of the burn once ImgBurn has closed itself down after the burn?

The logs are automatically saved and you can find them in ImgBurn's Help menu.

Very strange - I found the log file, thanks for the directions. However, it contains all the logs of the ISOs I burned, and also logs of the times I have opened the program just to look at it while writing for this thread; BUT no trace of the two burns I did for the project I have the problem with.

The difference is that for that project ImgBurn was accessed via DVD Flick - maybe that makes a difference to log recording?

Look in the project destination folder of DVD Flick. Where you saved your project.

The ImgBurn log is the file named 'imgburn_write.txt'.

I 07:16:29 TV System: PAL

Are you living in a PAL land?

There is a later firmware version. Now you have ver 1.13.

http://www.firmwarehq.com/Pioneer/DVR-115D/files.html

Yes, definitely PAL land for TV :) Very observant though.

I downloaded firmware 1.22 - thanks for the link! But... I'm a little reluctant to install it after reading this thread:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/955740.html

It's a different drive, but it seems if you have a problem there's no easy going back to 1.13.

Do you think 1.22 will make a lot of difference? I never had any problems prior to this project anyway; but that was before I burned any ISOs. I can't imagine what changes burning ISOs would make to what happens when I burn AVIs etc...

Hmmm... well, about to try a different AVI project. I'll see how that goes!

By the way, a search of my entire hard drive for dvr115d failed to find anything - where would I expect to find the current firmware for the burner installed?

The drive doesn't care about the type of data you're burning. And the firmware is stored in the burner's flash memory. Having the latest firmware ensures your drive has the best support for burning the blanks you're using, as per the manufacturer's tests.

I have the same burner as you have and I had it flashed with 1.22 when I installed Win 7 64 bit. :)

There is no drive file on the hard disk to look after. It's flashed /written into your drive.

Thanks for that, Cynthia... since I am running only Win XP 32 bit, maybe it doesn't need 1.22. I'm just running scared that it will stuff things up for me like mentioned on an earlier post, and right now it seems to be working just fine. I think it was just one project I had trouble with, and it is now working fine with 1.13.
