I can write DVDs without a problem, and read CDs. But when I attempt to write to a CD-R ImgBurn hangs writing the lead, and nothing is written.

ImgBurn will write CD-Rs on my laptop's internal CD writer.

Any idea why it is failing on the Plextor?

I then noticed "(Speeds: 8x, 16x, 24x, 32x)" in the log, so I tried setting speed to 32x, and it failed again.

The CD-R has 52x written on it -- how do I know the maximum speed to set for a CD-R (I'd assumed that choosing "MAX" would cause ImgBurn to select the maximum speed for the loaded media)

Tried with another brand of CDs or a different write speed?

Hi Cythia,

No idea why it selected 48x as the speed. Buggy firmware perhaps?

If you use the Discovery mode to test burn a disc, select the full disc. 1 Sector is nothing, as the disc can hold 359,844 sectors.

There is also a later version of the firmware. Now you have ver 1.09.

Suggest you update the firmware and try a new burn.

Your drive/firmware combo supports that media at the speeds it's listed in brackets - i.e. 8x, 16x, 24x, 32x.

The 48x looks bogus and is probably coming from something else, ignore it.

Using a slower speed was the right thing to try. If 16x or 24x work, stick to using one of those.

Ideally you'd invest in some Taiyo Yuden CD's though as they're the best.

P.S. You should update the firmware on your drive.

Hi Cynthia,

I updated the firmware -- just made the problem worse. Still will only write out at a 16x, (although log: I 14:35:13 Source Media Type: CD-R (Disc ID: 97m26s66f) (Speeds: 8x, 16x, 24x, 32x))

But now it takes over 2 minutes from when I hit [cancel] to the write attempt stopping:

I 14:27:20 Writing LeadIn...

I 14:27:55 Abort Request Acknowledged

E 14:29:38 Failed to Write Sectors 32 - 63 - Reason: Write Error

I 14:29:38 Synchronising Cache...

W 14:29:41 User opted to skip the 'Close Track/Session/Disc' functions.

E 14:29:41 Failed to Write Image!

E 14:29:41 Operation Aborted! - Duration: 00:02:21

I 14:29:41 Average Write Rate: 0 KB/s (0.0x) - Maximum Write Rate: 0 KB/s (0.0x)

But at least I'm able to write CDs

Thanks
