Cooler Dude Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I have 2 identical "NEC ND-7170A-0S Silver x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer (with Ram Support) DVD-Writer OEM UK" I can read and write CDs OK. I can play and access commercial DVDs PROBLEM: When I burn a DVD (I just want to backup some data files), all appears well, verify after write is successful. However, when I try to access the DVD with Explorer, I get a Windows message entitled "Disk is not formatted", which reads... "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows". I have tried DVD-R & DVD-RW of different makes. I have used Nero 6.6 and now IMGBurn, all with the same results. I am new to DVD burning and hoping it is something really simple that I have overlooked All helpful suggestions will be gratefully received.

Cooler Dude Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Problem solved. I borrowed some DVD+R blanks and everything works perfectly. My drives supposedly read & write -R and +R but for some reason my computer doesn't seem to like -R disks I have burned.
ianymaty Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Update your burner's firmware to 1.05, for now you have 1.02 installed. Look here for the newer. Try again with those discs.
