I have 2 identical "NEC ND-7170A-0S Silver x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer (with Ram Support) DVD-Writer OEM UK"

I can read and write CDs OK.

I can play and access commercial DVDs

PROBLEM:

When I burn a DVD (I just want to backup some data files), all appears well, verify after write is successful. However, when I try to access the DVD with Explorer, I get

a Windows message entitled "Disk is not formatted", which reads... "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is

not compatible with Windows".

I have tried DVD-R & DVD-RW of different makes. I have used Nero 6.6 and now IMGBurn, all with the same results.

I am new to DVD burning and hoping it is something really simple that I have overlooked ;) All helpful suggestions will be gratefully received.

Problem solved. I borrowed some DVD+R blanks and everything works perfectly. My drives supposedly read & write -R and +R but for some reason my computer doesn't seem to like -R disks I have burned.
