Can't erease disc.

Recommended Posts

I have a few files on a Memorex DVD+-RW and I want to remove them so I can reuse the disc for other things. The problem is that when I go to "erase disc" in IMGburn, it does not erase the disc, it sais "disc not empty" and doesn't erase anything when I set it to quick or full.

I've tried opening the disc and erasing them manually, but it sais "the file is read only" so I clicked on properties to change that, but it doesn't allow me to, and it sais "access denied" and that I can't copy/move/delete files from this disc.

It's a 4.7 gig disc, but in properties, it sais it's capacity is only about 2.8 gigs (the size of the everything on it)and that it has no free space.

I was just trying to make a backup copy of a game too, but it didn't work, (this is what I'm trying to remove from the disc but can't).

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?

That's not a rewritable disc so you can't erase it. Only DVD-RW / DVD+RW / DVD-RAM discs are rewriteable.

So basically, even though the disc was rewritable originally, now it can't be rewritten again?

I think you got tricked on the RW logo that is the official logo for the DVD+R/+RW alliance and that can be found on +R media discs surface. :)

Yes I did. Just looked at the receipt and saw DVD-R.
