dRaGoNiaZ Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I don't know if this is a common problem or not because the search doesn't allow words less than 3 letters, but here is my problem: I'm trying to burn at just 1x, but when it actually begins the burning process, at first it will start really low, like 0.7x burning, which I've no problem with, but then it moves to 8x and 8.1x. Any ideas why? P.s. my hardware is: HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B; Don't know if that helps, but whatev. Thanks in advance.
cornholio7 Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 look in the right hand window of the gui to see if the media supports 1x like shown below the supported write speeds of the shown media start at 4x
dRaGoNiaZ Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 (edited) Heh, I'd hope that I would see it there if it existed. Any information after the "Free Time..." isn't there for me. and I am using the newest version of ImgBurn as well. Edited May 11, 2006 by dRaGoNiaZ
dRaGoNiaZ Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 Sure can. cornholio7 Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 ok obviously the media and drive combination don't support 1x so try 2x or 4x until you find one the media does support.
polopony Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 dont know of any drives and media that support 1 X its really a thing of the past .I burn everything at 6X and get beautifull discs that verify every time and stuff thats a couple of years old still plays perfect
lfcrule1972 Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I don't think I have ever burnt a CD with ImgBurn so not sure about this - but maybe the write speeds for CD-R's aren't reported ??
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Correct, they're not. They're not reported in the same way DVD ones are - or rather they're not reported at all!
ron spencer Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I've burn CDs...perfect, but I never noticed the speed....Is it supposed to burn CDs?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Yes, it is supposed to burn them - and does. It doesn't however, report the write speeds supported for CD media.
Kenadjian Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Why is that boss? Is it because CD's don't have that info in the media management area like DVD's? Or you just didn't cater for it as far CD's are concerned.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 For DVD you can just query the drive and it gives you a nice list. For CD you have to mess around trying to set the write speed to a given value, and then try to read it back. If it's the same, it supports that value. Just seemed a lot of messing around for very little gain - and it wouldn't be 100% reliable either.
Darkfalz Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 There's no point in burning 1x, if you want the best quality burn, stick to 4x - this is the highest CLV with no speed switches (although I have an older drive, perhaps there are 8x CLV now, or smoother CAV burning rather than the stepping thing that I have).
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Funny....... my burns at 12x and 16x (many hundreds of them) work fine. Restricting the available burn speed on a capable PC with a good drive with decent media is like placing a rubber band on your wedding tackle before going for a leak. It'll still work but the process itself is slower and more painful than it has to be.
lfcrule1972 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Fooking hell !! I just laughed like an idiot at that comparison Shamus !!
Kenadjian Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I gotta admit, never heard of that one before. Good one shamus, dunno where you get these from, but they make me laugh like hell.
