hardluckharry Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 If you are using high quality media such as Verbatim (like I did), the culprit is with 99% certainty a bad drive. I had a crappy LG-HL-DT-ST-ram drive which would fail writing about 50% of the time even at the beginning of a dvd+r dl, or sometimes exactly at 50%. Tried on an optiarc and pioneer drive, not a single error or coaster after over 200 discs. Not a single spindle servo error (which is a hardware problem as I have found out online) or I/O invalid write address error. If you keep getting these annoying problems and are wasting dozens of disks like I used to, just buy a cheap new writer, you can get new ones even at $20-$50. Turns out my LG was from 2006, had no firmware update available, and it was dying. It was bundled with a new PC that had blazing new parts though, except that one (drive).
