NewB1NewB Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 New to ImgBurn but I did read topic on how to burn a single layer DVD disc. I used AnyDVD in background and DVD Decrypter to rip a TV show I had recorded. The DVD recorder did finalize disc and created a simple play menu. I can watch the ripped tv show on my hard drive. When I load a ImgBurn copy of this show back on my recorder the recorder loads the disc but when I hit play nothing happens? I looked at the log and it appears to me that the show was written without any errors but the verify processes has errors (see log below)and I used Verbatim DVD-R/16X. Not sure if it is me not setting the build session up incorrectly or its the DVD burner(Sony DVD RW-DRU 840A)? Thank you for taking the time on my post! I 09:00:22 ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 started! mmalves Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Update ImgBurn. Read the 2nd post from the FAQ thread (link at the top of this page) to solve your DMA problem, then try burning again.
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Using W2K/SP4: Went into Device Manager located Primary & Secondary IDE Channels, looked at property on each, found only three tabs (General/Driver/Resources) none indicate either PIO or DMA. So I went to the DVD/CD drive under the Device Manager, went to property and found four tabs (General/Properties/Advanced Settings/Driver) no listing as to either PIO or DMA settings. What now? Where else on my system could I find this setting?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If you only looked at the channels, it might be on the top level controller. If you don't have it anywhere then that's probably due to the driver you're running. What chipset does your board use?
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 If you only looked at the channels, it might be on the top level controller. If you don't have it anywhere then that's probably due to the driver you're running. What chipset does your board use? Not sure what you mean by "chipset": Intel Pentium 4 on a Intel D845WN board (?) I do go to Device Manger and property for Intel®82801BA Ultra ATA Controller and there where same three tabs as Prim/Sec. and no PIO or DMA indication.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Ok, Intel board...Intel chipset. It could have been Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, VIA etc. Try installing the latest chipset inf drivers. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=816&DwnldID=18494&lang=eng Hopefully that'll work on your board - no harm done if it doesn't, it'll tell you and then you'll just have to get an older version down.
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 I tried installing the INF Update Utility but it would not install, gave me this message: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will now exit!" Wow, Am I having one of "those" day or what! I really appreciate all the time and effort you have been providing me with this issue. Not sure what to do at this point(?)
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Try this one instead then: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=757&DwnldID=8178&lang=eng Once that's all installed, if it still doesn't show up, try removing the main controller entry from within device manager and rebooting.
mmalves Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 You could also have a look at the other options in this page.
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 OK, Installed INF 800 series update utility --- didn't do the trick. Uninstalled Intel®82801BA Ultra ATA Controller from the Device Manager and rebooted. Wow, had to reinstall the "IdeChnDr.sys" and "IPrtCnst.dll" files and rebooted. Checked my BIOS and I am running the latest version P15 for 845WN board. No place in BIOS to set PIO or DMA. After reboot, Went into Device Manager located Main, Primary & Secondary IDE Channels, looked at property on each, found only three tabs (General/Driver/Resources) none indicate either PIO or DMA. Really at a lost now.
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Using the link that "mmalves" provided I located an INF update utility specific for 845 chip-set desktop boards. Did not do the trick, still unable to see or set/change of the PIO or DMA. This is really strange.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 There's no 845 specific inf one, mine was the latest supporting the 8xx series (according to the links on the site that I followed anyway). Try the Intel Application Accelerator too... http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=4857&ProdId=663&lang=eng Can I just ask, does it really matter if you don't have that tab? I mean, if it's working ok (and you haven't said it isn't), what's the problem?
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 You ask "Can I just ask, does it really matter if you don't have that tab?" My fault I apologize for creating this secondary thread, I had started a new topic yesterday concerning my newly burned DVD did not play and I sent a copy of the burn log. mmalves instructed me to update to the latest version, which I did and "Read the 2nd post from the FAQ thread (link at the top of this page) to solve your DMA problem, then try burning again." Then when I went to relpy to that post as to what happened, I , also being a newbie to forms, hit start a new topic button when I wanted to just add reply. My confusion and I apologize. I have been trying to resolve the DMA problem as instructed and still do not know if I am using PIO or DMA when I burn. I will now access the link above that you provided and go from there.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If you read the post in the FAQ properly/fully, it tells you that it's pointless checking the current value in Windows because it lies. The fix is to uninstall the controller entry and reboot - both of which you've already done as per my earlier instructions. The Intel Application Accelerator tool adds a program to your start menu. You can probably see how the controllers/drives are running in there - it's been a *long* time since I've used it so I may well be wrong on that. p.s. I've merged your threads.
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Thank you for merging thread back to originally intended topic! Since I have the latest version installed and "The [DMA]fix is to uninstall the controller entry and reboot - both of which you've already done as per my earlier instructions." Therefore, I am burning another DVD of the same show to see if today there is a better burn. So far I see lots of "exclamation symbols" during the verify process. Once process is completed will try and play disc and submit burn log to this thread. Again, thank you all for being here to lend your assistance!
NewB1NewB Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 The burn DVD does work (didn't watch entire show yet)in DVD player, but as I indicted above could not perform "Verify" process, not sure why this is (?) Tried to paste in burn log but received a message that it caused this post to be too long so I will attach a copy of the log. ImgBurn-4-2-2010Shield.log
mmalves Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Where are the source files located? Is it an external drive hooked through USB 1.1? Or perhaps a network drive on a 10mbits network?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If none of the above is true, please do the following... Switch to Discovery mode, tick the 'Test Mode' box and then burn another DVD-R. Post your log from that one please. I wonder why your drive is showing up as 'SCSI' ?
NewB1NewB Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 To answer mmalves: the source files are located on an external HD/USB2 Is this what is causing the verifying problem?
NewB1NewB Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 As to Lightning UK: Not sure why any of my drives would show up SCSI since I have nothing SCSI -- very strange indeed. mmalves Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 To answer mmalves: the source files are located on an external HD/USB2 Is this what is causing the verifying problem? It wasn't supplying the burner with data in a fast enough way so the burner had to re-link many times, which in the end results in a bad quality burn/unreadable disc. The speeds you were getting are of USB 1.1, not USB 2.0, are you sure your system supports USB 2.0? Use SIW to find out (Hardware -> Ports -> USB).
NewB1NewB Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 mmalves: That is a great program! Thanks! It appears that USB 2 is supported, See attached screen shot.
mmalves Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Then you need to find out why it was/is working in USB 1.1 mode: try another USB cable, connect to a USB port in the back of the computer, or if it's that way already, connect to another USB port at the back of the computer. Also make sure the USB cable isn't entangled with other USB/power cables.
