Kara_09 Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Hello, I'm having trouble understanding how to burn picture files to a DVD disc. I've click on "write files/folders to disc" then selected the sources or files that I want on the disc, but after all that I'm quite lost. The build button stays gray and I'm unable to "build" the files. What needs to be done in order to burn these files to the DVD? Forgive me if I didn't search quite hard enough to figure this out on my own, but i would greatly appreciate the help. -Note: In case this is valuable information: I'm using windows XP and Sony DVD+R RW disc
Kara_09 Posted April 10, 2010 Author Posted April 10, 2010 Well, that's insulting, haha, but it is actually a blank disc.

mmalves Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 As ianymaty said above, what does it say in the status bar? e.g. Device Not Ready (reason). Also please go to the Device tab and copy and paste here all the text shown there.
mmalves Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Your burner didn't recognise the disc. Do you have only one disc or more? If there's more than one then try with the others to see if they get recognised. Also, what's the exact type and rated write speed of your blank(s)? If you're unsure then please tell us all the information on the disc's surface and/or box.
Kara_09 Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 The blank disc package says: 120 min 4.7 GB/Go 1-16x Sony DVD+R I've also tried 3 blank discs, and none of them seem to be working. Is there a way to work around this so that i don't have to return the blank discs?
mmalves Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Your burner should work fine with those blanks, but maybe it has worn out or developed a fault. Does still read burned discs? I guess all you can try now is: finding older 8x rated blanks; DVD-R (notice it's "minus R") media to see if it recognizes that type of disc; looking for a new burner. For the media, Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are high quality brands that should work with any burner.
Kara_09 Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) Hi again, It seems that the first couple discs didn't work for reasons i cannot not explain, but i tried a few that were on the bottom, and those seemed to work great. However, I'm getting an error whenever i wish to burn files to the disc. I was wondering if I could get some help again regarding this new issue. Here's a screen cap of the error I'm receiving: Edited April 27, 2010 by Kara_09
ianymaty Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Since newest firmware is from 2005 the burner is kind of old now... I think you should follow mmalves advice and look for a new burner
Kara_09 Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Okay, I'll consider to do so. Umm... Do you recommend any particular ones?
ianymaty Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Most recommendation I see on the forum are for the Optiarc burners Also, a good thing is to browse the General\Drive section of the Forum to see some tests how the drives performe on different media at different speeds
