RKN777 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Greetings, I just burned a few DVD+R TDKs using imgburn loaded off wine and for some reason the device buffer is not constant. It jumps from 6% , to 70% , 100% with state change interval about half millisecond. Any ideas why its happening? One thing i should mention is that i had to change the io settings to ASPI from ASAPI otherwise it can't recognize burn:/// path no matter the settings in winecfg. PS : Ah i forgot : Distro Ubuntu 10.4LTS x64 AMD build. Thanks Edited May 7, 2010 by RKN777
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Do you really mean ASAPI? It shouldn't ever really be on that.
RKN777 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 What brand of drive is it? Sounds as an Optiarc. Nah - its samsung. And i never had issues on windows7 x64 , even on DL disks , so the drive is out of question Do you really mean ASAPI? It shouldn't ever really be on that. I've set it to ASPI - WNASPI32.DLL because the default configuration(ASAPI - ASAPI.DLL) couldn't detect my dvd dl rw ram drive.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 The default is most certainly NOT ASAPI, it's SPTI unless you're running Win 9x/Me in which case it's ASPI. A lot of drives perform WOPC type functions as they burn. When the do that (to test the burn quality at that precise moment), the buffer level goes down. Is it possible that's what you're seeing? Upload one of the graph data files so we can see what's what. Oh and post a log too where you burn + verify a disc.

In winecfg i have set the os value to "Windows XP".No idea if that could be the issue. Upload one of the graph data files so we can see what's what. LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 You have an LG drive, not a Samsung! Anyway, the graph is all over the place so something is obviously very wrong. What does the main buffer look like when you're burning? Is it on 100% all the time? What happens if you burn (waste) a disc in discovery mode, does it show the same device buffer issues as a normal burn in Write mode? There's a NL02 firmware update available here - http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GH22NS40/files.html Are you running the latest version of Wine? v1.1.44 as of today.
RKN777 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) You have an LG drive, not a Samsung! Oops , excuse me for my mistake .My 2nd external drive is Samsung . What does the main buffer look like when you're burning? Is it on 100% all the time? The main buffer is locked at 100% The device buffer goes like this : 6% -> (69~70)% -> 100% 6% -> 100% But its really fast. Are you running the latest version of Wine? v1.1.44 as of today. Yes for sure.I just yesterday did a clean install of ubuntu 10.4 . There's a NL02 firmware update available here - http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GH22NS40/files.html I'll update it when i get the chance and i will post back.Hopefully the installer should work under wine Edited May 7, 2010 by RKN777
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 My 2nd external drive is Samsung. 2nd external drive.... does that mean this LG is also external? If so, it's USB yeah? It goes like this :6% -> (69~70)% -> 100% 6% -> 100% But its really fast. I asked about the main buffer (just called 'Buffer'), not the device buffer (called 'Device Buffer') - unless they're both doing the same thing? Yes for sure.I just yesterday did a clean install of ubuntu 10.4. 1.1.44 only came out today I still only get 1.1.43 when I check for updates in Ubuntu 9.10.
RKN777 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 2nd external drive.... does that mean this LG is also external? If so, it's USB yeah? Nope , its not external.Actually, that's the only non-external optical drive on this machine I asked about the main buffer (just called 'Buffer'), not the device buffer (called 'Device Buffer') - unless they're both doing the same thing? Yeah i have edited my previous post a few minutes before your reply. The "main buffer" is locked at 100%. 1.1.44 only came out today I still only get 1.1.43 when I check for updates in Ubuntu 9.10. Just updated it "manually" http://i44.tinypic.com/kevzpe.png ..and tried to update the firmware & failed!. http://i42.tinypic.com/14o7fgn.png ..Seems like i need windows OS or VM.
RKN777 Posted July 3, 2010 Author Posted July 3, 2010 Just to let you know everything works fine since i upgraded the firmware and installed the latest version of wine
