mechelle Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Hi. I'm new to Imgburn as of today. We lost the remote to our Sony DVD Recorder (RDR-VX500). I recorded two DVD+R Single Layer discs today. They both played back fine in the recorder. Without the remote, I wasn't able to finalize them. As per forum instructions, I understood I was to use Imgburn to close the open track/session/disc in that order. I first used Imgburn Tools/Close/Track. This didn't give an error. The drive whirred for a while and I didn't get any messages of either success or failure. I did the next command: Tools/Close/Session. Again, no messages. Then I did Tools/Close/Disc. This time I got an I/O error. I tried going back to Tools/Close/Track, but I got error messages. Same with Tools/Close/Track and Tools/Close/Disc. The DVD that I tried to fix in this manner now says "cannot be player nor recorded" when I put it back in the DVD recorder. The one that I didn't try to fix still plays fine. I'm including the log. Would you please tell me how I can repair the DVD? As for the unfinalized DVD that I didn't yet try to fix, can you advise a correct sequence in order to make it readable in any DVD player? Thanks! ianymaty Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Can you see the content of that discs in Explorer? If you can see the content, copy it to a temp folder and build a new disc with ImgBurn. On another note, currentrly your drive have TO01 firmware installed. HERE is a newer one TO03 that you should install.
mechelle Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 Thanks for your reply. I can't see the content in Explorer in either the disc that is unfinalized but unmodified by Imgburn, nor the one that was unfinalized and I attempted to finalize it using Imgburn. Regarding the one that I tried to finalize: I was able to read the disc into computer memory using Read. This created an ISO file. It seems small - only 31mb. I then wrote the file back to disc using WRITE. Unfortunately, I learned that this just copies the ISO image back to the disc. The copied disc still says "cannot be played or recorded" in my dvd player. But, the disc was written back as "complete", instead of being "incomplete" like the original. My understanding of "BUILD" is that the source files should be the regular files, not an ISO file. Therefore, I haven't attempted to use BUILD., If I could see files in Explorer, then I suppose I could try to use BUILD. I do see another file in Explorer alongside the Image.ISO file called Image.MDS. Should I select both of these files as source files and do the BUILD? Will that write playable files then to the disc? So, if WRITE is the same as burning a disc, then it didn't succeed to put the files into the dvd playable format. I tried that and that's when I got a disc file as a result that "cannot be played or recorded". Regarding the firmware upgrade, I followed the link you suggested only to discover that it appears to be referring to a SAMSUNG drive. My laptop is a Toshiba and I think the drive is made by Toshiba, not SAMSUNG. Any further suggestions?

ianymaty Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I recall, some years ago I attempt to recover a such unfinalized disc, it was a miniDVD from a camcorder that the camcorder won't finalize. I used Ulead Video Studio, not remember exactly what version, I used them from v7 to v9. Even if in Explorer not show anything, Ulead Video Studio managed to import the video. I think it was Import DVD-VR... And I always know TMPGEnc DVD Author can import DVD-VR. Wanna try?
