Hi, I have been trying to burn using my Optiarc multi drive but it does not work. I always get an unsuccessful verification or a half-way burn( at both 2.4x and 4.0x). I used correct booktype, DVD from Verbatim MKM-003. I always get successful burn with my girlfriend's laptop, which is a HP multi-drive. I've read the post for burning DL DVDs posted by Lighting UK!, updated my drive firmware. I also noticed alot of HDD activity going on compared to my girlfriend's laptop during burns. The writing LeadIn time is also kind of longer (about nearly a minute before device buffer starts). I could only get 2 good burns out of 12. here is the log:

You have the best media you can get and it is rated at 8x but your drive can burn it only at 2.x and 4x. That's not good.

Try what Cynthia said and also try the other speed 2.4x since 4x can't do the job done right

Oh, it was stated in the first line, I must overlooked that part...:)

Still, something is not right with that drive...

I have not gotten to the cleaning disc part yet. But I have a hunch that the problem lies in my drive. So, I went out and tried to get an Pioneer and Asus external burner(USB connection. However, I got the Sephamore timeout has expired or something like that. There were no cure for that. Is there nay suggestion for a good consistent external burner? I'm using a lappy so my choice is limited to USB :'(. An one more thing, my drive used NuTech firmware instead of NEC. I got Invalid command operation Code error when I used NEC tab in booktype.

Editted: I just bought a Sony Optiarc AD-7240S and stuck it in an external enclosure. Worked like a charm. Guess the problem lies in my drive. Laptop burners are kinda shady.
