Semophore timeout?

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm not sure if it's been answered before, but I kinda have two problems.

 

I have a laptop with an optiarc dvd rw AD-7910S. Whenever I try to burn xbox 360 backups onto DL DVD's, it gives me some kinda I/O error at 50% completion.

 

I got tired of wasting DVD's, so I plugged in a TS-H653 DVD burner with a sata to USB connector. It worked perfectly for awhile, and then it started giving me a semophore time out error. It did it a few times. I just tried it and it made a disk fine this time, so I tried to burn another, and it gave me the error again! I don't know what this error means so I figured I'd ask. A simple search as suggested in the pink bit above should be done before asking, but here it is...

Semaphore timeout errors are likely caused by an incompatibility between your system's USB chipset and the SATA-to-USB adapter's chipset. You could try finding newer drivers for your system's USB chipset (this website might help), try plugging in other USB ports, try a different USB cable if it uses one, etc. If you want more suggestions on what you can try then search this board for semaphore timeout.

Sorry about that, I'd googled it before and didn't get the answer I was looking for. I ordered a sata to esata connector (my laptop has esata) so maybe if I connect it with that it'll fix it. thanks for bearing with me!
