8x rated media wont burn at all

ok my pc burns 2.4xrated dl media with no problem but when i try to burn 8x rated media at 2.4x it simply wont burn.2.4x is the only speed that my pc can burn dl media at. my question is how can i get the 8x rated media to burn at 2.4x .and yes iv got imageburn set to 2.4x my dvd drive is ATAPI DVD A DH16AYH ATA
