new samsung writer....Is it the media?? Help please!

Hello again, Last time i posted here i had a problem not finishing dvd's. So i bought a new dvd writer and now getting error

Medium not present Im going to get some better media tonight to make sure i didnt get a lemon burner. Currently iv been using Memorex dvd+R 16X

Latest chip set drivers for that USB connector? Is it some type of "converter" (SATA/IDE to USB) ?

Under ide ata/atapi controllers there is 4 primary ide 4 secondary and 4 standered dual. I have the writer pluged into the two back usb ports. I'm so lost.
