DVD-DL UDF not recognized by WInXP

Hi.

 

I burned a DVD-DL (double layer, 8.5 GB) with various files ranging from 1 KB to 2 GB. No folder structure, just plain burn of some files.

 

I used UDF 1.02. The burn and verify inside ImgBurn 2.5.0.0 was successful.

 

Afterwards, I realized in WinXP SP3 that all files show 0 Bytes. Ubuntu can read the files.

 

What went wrong?

Do I have to change the settings in ImgBurn?

Does an upgrade of all Mircrosoft patches (from SP3 onwards) help?

You only used UDF? Not also ISO9660?

 

No idea how well Ubuntu supports DVDs with only UDF file system on them.

Are you sure it helps to add ISO9660?

This would be a burn using UDF (1.02) + ISO9660.

 

These DL-DVDs still cost money. I can't run test after test

 

BTW ... I just noticed that Windows7 (ran from a virtual machine) recognizes the DVD-DL properly.

You can test by creating an image and mounting it in a virtual driver program.

 

Use 2.5.1.0 too as old versions aren't supported.

Hi.

 

I forgot to mention that I used am image file already (.iso) with VirtualCloneDrive. This worked fine and all files were readable. However didn't consider this test as very reliable since other software drivers (VirtualCloneDrive) might have permitted proper display/reading of "burned" files.

After rebooting this morning, the files on subject DVD-DL became visible ?!?!

 

I did multiple reboots after the problem occurred, but none helped to see the files. Now ... all of a sudden, it works. I didn't change anything on the system between posting the initial article and the reboot this morning).

 

No clue what went wrong here, but now it works.
