whosthatguythere Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) Alright, I'm trying to burn an ISO of Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) to a Memorex DVD-R (package says "12x | 4.7GB | 120min" on it). The ISO itself is 3.02GB in size, so it'll obviously fit on a single DVD-R. By the way, I should mention that I have Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit, and Genuine) on my HP laptop. I just didn't receive a Vista Installation disc with the laptop. I originally tried burning the ISO with CDBurnerXP but it stuck at 99% (I left it going while I slept and upon waking up it was still stuck at 99%, and had been writing for 9 hours and 35 minutes). I eventually Ctrl+Alt+Del'd CDBurnerXP and tried running the DVD. It seems to run fine but I don't want to chance having a bad installation due to Ctrl+Alt+Del'ing CDBurnerXP. However, I recently burned an ISO of the Windows AIK program (needed to properly run vLite) to one of the same Memorex DVD-R's, and the write process didn't hang at 99% (The filesize of the AIK ISO is 1.34GB, noticeably smaller than the Vista ISO) So a friend suggested ImgBurn. I downloaded and installed ImgBurn, no problems there. I started the write process on a new blank DVD-R. I chose a 4x write speed (also suggested to me by a friend), and selected Verify and Eject. Again, as I said about CDBurnerXP, I don't want to Ctrl+Alt+Del ImgBurn and chance having the installation screw up because the disc didn't get burned properly. It's stuck at 99%. ianymaty Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Update your drive's firmware and try again http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GSA-T50L/files.html You can try a lens cleaning disc, other speed available (8x, since you already tryed 4x) and other brand of discs.
whosthatguythere Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 UPDATE: I just aborted the write, ejected the disc and popped it back in. The icon of the E: drive changed to like, a Windows Vista installation program-type icon, and loaded up the Windows Vista Installation menu, so I believe everything may have worked out. However, to test it, I downloaded VirtualBox, and am using it to test the disc to see if it loads/installs Vista from the disc properly without issues. I'm at the "Install Windows Vista" screen right now, in VirtualBox, so once I fully test the disc and see if it installs Vista without issues, I can then edit the disc in vLite, remove all the stuff I don't want Vista to install (Windows Live Calendar, all the preloaded HP stuff). I guess it doesn't really matter if I abort the write process once it hangs at 99%. Seems I've wasted 2/10 of my DVD-R's because of the hanging issue (I previously made 2 copies in attempts to burn the ISO to the discs, and both discs had the hang issue)
