Cec Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) Hello! I'm new here and I hope it's okay I'm posting this and where I'm posting it... if not I apologize. I've been burning quite a few discs lately, not more than 25 though. This morning I burned one using ImgBurn as I've been doing lately, and everything was okay. Then this afternoon I tried burning an .iso file and got an error while burning. Log: http://freetexthost.com/fqt3exieph (I hosted it so the post wouldn't be too long) I tried burning it again and there was no problem, until the verification started. Log: http://freetexthost.com/oxj13lys1r Then I tried burning another image because I thought the first one might have a problem because I had trouble when I downloaded it. I got the same as the previous one: http://freetexthost.com/5uck36kcjb Beginning to lose my patience, I tried to burn a folder instead of an image. It didn't even work, I got the same problem as the very first one. http://freetexthost.com/xqnavrjw2x I'm using Verbatims. Are the two discs that were burnt okay but failed the verification viable? Or I should leave the data in my hard drive until I can burn it again? I got this burner a year ago and it hasn't been mass-used, so I don't really understand why this is happening. I kind of limited in my knowledge, so I'm a bit reluctant to make some major or any change on my computer if it's needed. Thanks in advance for the help, I appreciate it. LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Update ImgBurn Update the firmware on your drive - http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GSA-H20N/files.html Buy some decent discs. Verbatim don't use the RITEKF1 dye so don't try and pull a fast one!
Cec Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I'm sure how to do the firmware update, but I'll check. The latest version of ImgBurn found an error (W 19:20:32 Duplex Secure's SPTD driver can have a detrimental effect on drive performance) right when I started it, so I went back to the one I've always used. I thought Verbatims were good enough and you can't get better than that over here. Is that or Imations... or Sonys. I never had a problem with them before and I used the same discs with the stuff I've been burning lately and everything was okay. Edited September 1, 2010 by Cec
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 That's not an error, it's a warning and detection of SPTD was only added in that version. Like I said, you don't have Verbatim discs. Yours use the RITEKF1 dye and that's NOT one Verbatim use. (unless their 'value' range use it now, I don't know). You want the MCC or MKM dye Verbatims.
Cec Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying. My discs say Verbatim, what do you mean they are not Verbatims? Could the be fakes even though they are like a regular Verbatim? I just checked the DVD info with Nero and says that the manufacter is ritek even though they look like Verbatims. Sorry it's in spanish: Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info Información básica Tipo de disco: : DVD-R Tipo de norma : DVD-R Fabricante: : Ritek MID : RITEKF1 Velocidades de grabación: : 4 X - 8 X - 12 X - 16 X Capacidad en blanco : 4.38 GB : 4489 MB : 4707319808 bytes Información extendida Capas : 1 Uso : General Protección de copyright : n/a Información del grabador : grabado con HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20N Estado de disco : Abrir Datos de bajo nivel Pre-recorded Information in Lead-in (0Eh) 0000 - 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0D 13 87 88 90 00 - .@....R......... 0010 - 03 52 49 54 45 4B 46 00 04 31 00 00 00 00 00 00 - .RITEKF..1...... 0020 - 05 88 80 00 00 00 02 00 F0 FF FF FF F8 5F 18 00 - ............._.. 0030 - EC 08 11 00 6D 8E 3E 77 04 00 00 00 E4 08 11 00 - ....m.>w........ 0040 - D8 99 3A 7E 00 80 00 00 E7 F2 3A 7E 8D 3F 3E 77 - ..:~......:~.?>w 0050 - 00 80 00 00 12 09 12 00 FC FF FF FF 00 00 00 00 - ................ 0060 - 01 00 00 00 F8 5F 18 00 38 09 11 00 00 00 15 00 - ....._..8....... Are Sonys better? That's my other option beside Imation. Edited September 1, 2010 by Cec
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Just get some real/decent Verbatims. Taiyo Yuden are the other decent ones to buy. Can you take a picture of yours? The top of the disc itself and the box/tub they came in if possible.
Cec Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 I can't get decent ones because you can't distinguish which one is which until after you bought them and check them with Nero or something similar. They both say Verbatim. I thought these were real/decent Verbatims. They look like this: http://a.imageshack.us/img709/4338/ca5830282enl.jpg I don't have the box because my brother kept it. I've been reading some threads on other boards and apparently most of the Verbatims that are sold in my country were manufactured by RITEK. The 'good' one are manufactures by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. The problem is that you don't know which one is which until after you bought them... so I think that I'm going to have to switch to Sonys since the Taiyo Yuden ones are not available in my country.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 ImgBurn shows you the manufacturer / disc id in the disc info box on the right. Maybe importing discs would be an option for you? It's not something I know very much about but I know some of the other members do it. It's much easier to buy online from a store that actually lists the MID on the item description page.
Cec Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Yes, thanks. I thought about that but it's too expensive for me. My other option is Sony, are they good enough?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I have no experience of them. Take a look at the cdfreaks forum and see if you can find anyone doing burn tests (PIPO/Disc Quality) with your drive and the media you *can* get hold of.
Cec Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Thank you, I'll check that forum. One more question, maybe you know. I've checked some of my old discs and I have some Imations that say that are manufactured by Verbatim and their ID reads: MCC 03rg20. Are those the kind of MCC you recommended above? So this might just be a problem with the media and not the burner per se? Anyway, thanks a lot for your help and sorry for the constant quentions.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Yeah that's the dye the Verbatim 16x DVD-R discs normally use. Successful burning comes from having a decent drive/firmware/media combo. So you could potentially go from having lots of failures to not have any failures by changing any one of them. Your current drive/firmware might be fine with MCC 03RG20 but it keeps failing with RITEKF1. Likewise, a new drive/firmware might be fine with RITEKF1 where your current one keeps failing.
Cec Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Thank you very much for your help! I'll media hunting tomorrow to see if I can get those Imation with MCC 03rg20 or some Sonys D21 (I think there are other Sonys that are good, but I can't remember with ones) and see if I can make it work with that. Thanks again!
Cec Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) I wasn't able to get Sonys at all, all there is are those Verbatim RITEKF1 or Imation MBI 01RG40: http://a.imageshack.us/img340/8114/75834383.jpg I'll test one now and see how it works out. ETA: Didn't work. http://freetexthost.com/41zvgxv2ju Edited September 5, 2010 by Cec
