How to burn at 22x on 16x DVD-R

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just bought a new burner, a LG GH22NS50 that supports 22x burning speed. For my first burn I tried 22x.

I set the burning speed to 22x.

Media is EMTEC DVD-R 16x CMC MAG AM3 16.

At the end of the disc (that was full) the burning speed was 15.8x

Do I have to change a setting in imgburn (on my old Philips it was an advanced setting called overspeed) to allow speed faster than allowed by the media? Or it's just the burner "doesn't like" this media and can't go faster than 16x?

Thanks.

Yes, but there's no such thing - in the general sense anyway.

LG should have a list of which discs your drive can burn at 22x on.

Failing that, look at the CDFreaks forum / in the MCSE (MediaCodeSpeedEdit) tool.

Basically though, it'll be Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden - because they're the best.

Can't find such a list

Failing that, look at the CDFreaks forum / in the MCSE (MediaCodeSpeedEdit) tool.

Looks that changing writing speed is not supported by my burner.

Is there a way to know the maximum writing speed for a given DVD-/+R on my burner WITHOUT burning it and checking the log file?

Thanks for the time you take to reply to my questions :)

This thread shows some 22x tests with that drive (or one very much like it).

http://club.myce.com/f91/lg-gh22n-l-results-discussion-242448/

When I load the firmware in MCSE, it says:
Displaying the media list is not avalailable yet for this LG firmware.

The disc info panel on the right when you're in Write mode will tell you the supported write speeds.

Thanks.

On some other blanks I get:

MCC 03RG20: Supported Write Speeds: 4x; 8x; 16x; 18x; 20x; 22x

SONY 16D1: Supported Write Speeds: 4x; 8x; 16x; 18x

Will try MCC 03RG20 at 22x.

Thanks again for the support you gave me :)
