Can't burn on a slower speed

I bought some maxell dvd+r dl disc's and I can't burn on slower speed than 4x. These aren't the best disc's so they fail if not burned with 2x speed. Is there a way to make it burn slower? I don't want to just throw the disc's away When I select 2x speed the program automatically changes to 4x .

4x is probably the slowest the drive supports on those disc, you can't force it to do something it doesn't want to do.

 

It's the drive that ignores the 2x speed you're setting, not the program.
