Memorex F16 Drive - changing booktype problems

New to burning.

Windows XP

Memorex DVD+/-DLRW1 F16

I am want to backup a Xbox 360 game, I am trying to change the booktype to burn in DL Media. The problem is my drive is not listed and when I try to select one of the drives listed I get "Unknown Failed" on all drives listed. I went into the IMG settings and disabled the auto booktype but it still does the same thing. I do not want to waste a disc to see if it burns in DL format, if I can not get the correct booktype in the settings then how can IMG Burn properly burn the ROM with the auto detect setting?

Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

It's a rebaged Lite-On 1633S so my feeling is that it will book type +R DL media by default. If that is not the fact, it's possible to flash it to be a Lite-On with booktyping.

Not all burners accept commands to change the book type and that's why they are not listed in the book type section of ImgBurn.

The other thing that also might be an issue is what type of media brand/media code you are going to use with this burner. It's pretty old (2004) and you are likely to run into problems with newer media codes.

I figured that would/is the case. In your opinion would it be better to just pick up a DL Burner that is supported by IMG. I think I found a few for around $30-$50.

A new burner is alway nicer (better support for new media codes and so on). Just pick a nice burner. There are plenty of crap out there.

I just noticed you "think" the default media type for my burner would be R DL? Should I try a burn and see if it in fact burns as a dual layer, thus letting my Xbox read?

Yes, that would give you the answer of two things;

1. Can it burn a disc without erroring out

2. If it book types

Just remember to have the "Verify" option enabled in ImgBurn.

You should see the book type in the verify part of the log when you have burned the disc.

Thanks - I am going to try it out and see what happens.
