I downloaded a piece of software called DVD Flick. I put in a couple .avi files and it proceeded to convert them into proper DVD format. Once it got to the burning part, it went to 99% and gave me this error.

I/O Error!

Any help? I looked online for driver updates to my dvdrw drive, but I have the latest ones.

Edit: I downloaded Imgur and attempted to make a dvd following a guide posted on another section of the board. It went to 100% success with no faults, but the cd says it doesn't have anything written on it.

Have you tried the other supported write speeds?

Get yourself some Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden discs and try again.

The drive might just have an issue with the 'SONY16D1' dye discs you're using now.

Failing that and because your drive is getting on a bit now (latest firmware is 5 years old), invest in a new drive.

Please also read the following thread as it's directly relevant to your issue.
