LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Ah, you mean 'medium not present' then, not 'device not present' What discs are you putting in it? Can it see original / pressed CD-ROM discs? How about DVD-ROM discs?

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Just confirm that *any disc* really does mean *any* ? I'm not talking about discs you burn onto, I mean things like original (silver) audio cd's you've got from a shop etc. If it really won't read anything, take the drive back, it's developed a fault.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Press F8 before windows boots and run the windows memory diag tool. Or download Memtest86+ and use that. You get a blue screen of death normally yeah? Does it not mention any driver names or anything? You normally get a memory dump file too - that can be loaded into WinDbg (free from Microsoft) to see what caused the issue.
