First off, once again sorry for hijacking the other thread. I just wanted a little feedback from this

"I 05:35:14 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 4x)"

Trying to figure out how that could happen. I been using the same Verbatims that can do 2.4x, 4x, 6x. I have just reformatted my computer recently. Could it possibly have something to do with that? Then again, I've done all the Windows Updates and took care of the drivers and what not. How much should I even be concerned about this? As I said before, so far no problems with the speedier burns. It's just that when it seems like the general consensus is to burn it slow, I can't help but have that in the back of my mind.

No, reformatting your PC won't change firmware in the drive and it's the firmware in the drive that controls the supported speeds.

Maybe the Verbatim 8x discs (MKM-003-00 dye) will do 2.4x, 4x and 6x in that drive with that firmware, but the MKM-001-00 certainly won't.

The 'general consensus' is wrong. It's not about burning as slow as possible, it never has been.

What you're aiming for is finding the speed the drive does the best job at - i.e. produces the highest quality burn.

Once upon a time that may well have been 2.4x, but times change and things move on.

Of course every drive, firmware and media combo behaves differently so it's impossible to just say 'slowest = best' like that. It could produce fantastic burns for one combo and awful burns for another.
