Reoccurring Issues with Xbox 360 Games. Do I need a new DVD Drive?

Update 11/10/10:

I bought a new samsung SH-S243N DL Burner and I no longer have any issues. It must have been the DVD drive causing my the problems.

Please no quick responses I've been having this issue for a while. Please read full post before response. Thank you!s

I'm having troubles verifying my burns with xbox 360 games. I make sure to use Layer Break = 1913760 for IMGBurn. I've tried different Burn speeds like 2X, 2.4x, 4X, 6X, and 8X but for some reason my burner only seems to get the Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 2,770 KB/s (2x).

I previously made what I thought were 5 coasters with IMGBurn and one with CLONECD using Memorex media which I posted in another thread which you can view:

http://www.ixtreme.net/360-backups/burning-xbox-360-codmw2-with-imgburn-need-help-t4926.html

but after replacing my dvd laser on my xbox 360 I realized all of them now worked. I assume it must have been a dvd laser issue that I was having before then.

I now only use Verbatim 2.4x-6x DVD +R DL now and every time at the verifying stage of IMGBurn I get "waiting for device to become ready..." But it never does. So I manually eject the tray and then close tray numerous times and then I'll get these error messages: "Verify Failed! Reason: Layouts do not match" or "Failed to Read Sector 0 - Reason: Timeout on Logical Unit" (which will bring up windows prompt I/O error)and retrying or continuing won't help.

I've included a few log files for reference. You'll see that Left 4 Dead 2 and GTA IV LCS both fail to verify but I then manually went to the verify task and verified them that's the reason for the second log file. Both games play fine on my xbox 360. For Halo reach this is the few lucky cases that I get it to actually verifiy the disc directly after the burn process but this success is rare. It always ejects after each finalization and before verification but it always says waiting for device to become ready. I then manually eject and close the tray sometimes once and sometimes 30-40 times before device becomes ready and begins verification or device becomes ready and I get error messages.

I've looked for newer firmware for my DVD drive but there isn't one. I used DVDinfo to check info as well. I've never had an issue burning any other media other than this type that being DVD DL +R. Basically I was wondering is do I need a new DVD drive or is there something I'm missing?

This is my DVD drive: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552D

If anyone can help shed some light on this subject for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You could try cleaning the drive with a lens cleaning disc but I would go with a new burner anyway. If you have a SATA port available then I would recommend an Optiarc AD-7240S or AD-7260S burner.

I did already dis-assembled my DVD drive and "gently" clean the laser lens with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Thank for the advice on the DVD drives for purchase. I hear pioneer is really good for my application and there around the same price as the ones you mentioned.

currently I use an IDE but I do have 1 sata port left.

I did forget to mention that if I don't find a solution to my problem here then I wanted to get a DVD drive that I can flash with Kreon FW 1.0 like these:

Samsung/Toshiba

SH-D162C (IDE)

*TS-H352C (IDE)

SH-D163A (SATA)

*TS-H353A (SATA)

SH-D162D (IDE)

*TS-H352D (IDE)

SH-D163B (SATA)

*TS-H353B (SATA)

What does anyone think of this?

You do know that those drives you mentioned are readers only, right? They can't burn.

As for the burner, the newer Pioneers are re-badged Lite-Ons with poor firmware, so you'd be better off buying the real Lite-On burners.

Thanks I didn't actually know that thank you for pointing that out. I am still having issues verifying. The Xbox 360 DVD DL games themselves usually never have a issue playing. I only had 2-3 out of 30 that didn't play.

Thanks again for catching that.

What do you think my best bet is for a inexpensive burner? And if I buy brand new how many burns should I get before having an issue?

P.S. do you think I should POT Tweak my current burner before throwing it away after receiving the new one?
