Hi all,

I had burn failure two times in row with same media and ISO file.

Not sure what caused it, never had such error. I suppose my dvd burner is getting quite old, but not sure if i have to replace now.

Disc ID: YUDEN000-T03-00, JVC brand.

Wanted 4x burning speed, got 6x but this wasnt a problem at all so far when i burned different PS2 games.

Error log attached.

What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

4x isn't a supported speed, that's why your drive picked 6x instead.

If 6x isn't working, try 8x, 12x and 16x (the remaining 'supported' speeds).

If none of those work, try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc.

If it still doesn't work, double check it's not a dodgy spindle of discs - try some discs from a 2nd spindle.

If it still doesn't work, get yourself a new drive.

I wrote, that this happened to me for some time with the burning speed, no problem there yet.

Discs are totally ok by the look

Thanks tho.

Any other opinion?

You can at least get rid of this message by setting the correct speed. If DVD media has a minimum write speed of 4x, then you just really can't go any lower than 4x. Likewise if you have media that can go down to 2.4x but your drive can only burn it at 4x or 6x, then it is going to be 'over-sped' to that current speed.

As for the more serious error: Right now a few important questions: Is this a new drive? Have you checked for any firmware updates?

If this is not a new drive, then perhaps it may seem that it could begin to fail; but take my guess with a very fine grain of salt, and hopefully LUK can confirm/deny that. I hope I am wrong and your drive isn't 'on it's way out.'

However do check to see if a new version of your firmware is available, if there is hopefully this will solve your issue.

Your drive has problem getting the supported speeds. First offers a few, than only one speed is offered.

Your drive is getting old and needs replacement.

Its a somewhat old drive.

http://www.cdrinfo.com/sections/reviews/specific.aspx?articleid=14845

It has the newest firmware avaiable.

I`m afraid its "on it`s way out" but want to go for sure. It seems it only has problem with this ISO. Previous discs of this reel was burned w/o any problems. I`m rly sure that the burning speed error wasnt the problem since its autonmatically adjusting for correct burning speed (to 6x in this case).

Can it be an image file based error (format, character set, etc.)?

Thanks, but again my problem IS NOT the write speed miscompare!

The highlited was the speeds offered. Seams it's getting old and not quite understand the new media.

Tryin with other speeds offered is the last option you can try with that drive and probably is the final nail to it's coffin.

But i did burned it at x6 - which was offered - and it still had the end result with the indicated failure.

Seems like i`ll need a new burner...? :(

Try a higher speed if is available. Look in the right side of main window for the speeds offered on the disc found in drive.

A low speed isn't necessary the best speed to burn, you have to find yourself what speed produces the best burn.

Thanks all for the replies.

After realizing that a new Pioneer burner (SATA dvr-218lbk) is rly cheap (about 25 bucks here), i just bought a new one.

Successfully burned the mentioned ISO at 6x speed, and after that the old dvd-burner recognized the disc as blank disc.

The game was recognized by the new drive, and nicely runs on the PS2.

So it seems the burner was at fault afterall.

Thanks again all!

Just so you know, the Pioneer 218 isn't a true Pioneer.

They stopped making their own drives after the 117/217 series.

Don't expect it to be as good as your old Pioneer once was, it won't be.
