Hello, I've been having a recent problem with my USB external DVD burner and IMGBURN. I've recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and had no problem for a few months when all of a sudden my dvd burner starts to fail midway through each burn attempt with different disc images. I thought it may have been the burner going bad, but I plugged it into my Mac and was able to burn 20 or images without any problems. There aren't any error messages in the log to post because the burner's light stops blinking midway through and it just sits there spinning for eternity until I turn it off (the log only says something is wrong when I turn the power off). Sometimes, the burning gets halfway through, sometimes only 2%, and once in awhile it even finishes.

Here are the specs on the Burner:

SONY DVD RW DRU-840A (external USB) and it has been flashed with region free firmware (it was a used model and wouldn't allow region changing with the current firmware). Again, it has shown absolutely no problems until the past month or so. I've been using Verbatim discs (both dvd-r and dvd+r dl)

Computer:

Emachines T6520, Athlon 3400+, 2 gigs of RAM

I've tried reinstalling Windows 7 with a repair install, deleting the USB drivers and having Windows download them again, and even tried using different USB jacks on the desktop. Nothing seems to work. Any idea what can cause this? I seem to be much more succesful using Windows' own disc image burner as that has failed only once so far (out of about 6 times).

sure thing... again, I didn't receive any error messages until I turned the DVD Burner off manually. It was just sitting there spinning doing nothing and the write speed went down to 0. I think this is the section of the log file that had the error.

So it looks like the comms between your drive and the software are getting messed up.

The program has submitted a command to be processed by the drive but it's just not getting a response.

Do you have anything in your filter drivers list? (Copy + paste from the 'Filter Driver Load Order' feature on the 'Tools' menu)

Do your other drives in that machine still work ok?

If you have the option, never a drive externally when it could be used internally.

Internal drives typically suffer from less problems than external ones.

I do have an internal, but it is dying slowly and can barely read a dvd-r at this point. Might have to get that replaced now that the USB DVD drive doesn't seem to be working with the PC as it used to. It's just strange that it was working fine for months and now it continuously hangs, yet on the Mac it hasn't failed me once (and still doesn't). Windows 7 issue perhaps? or maybe a power supply issue? I have noticed the keyboard and mouse dropping out occasionally, but it hasn't happened in a few weeks.
