Shooter Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Created a .iso & .mds in order to burn to another disk. Not sure what caused this failure on "verify". Disk seems to played ok, didn't watch from beginning to end just checked chapter stops. Since having this failure updated program to newest version 2.5.2.0, haven't retried yet. LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Your drive doesn't seem to have closed the disc properly... maybe the firmware update will help. (Yes it should be the right one) You could always try the other supported write speeds too.

(Yes it should be the right one) You could always try the other supported write speeds too. Thanks for trying to help !! I did download firmware update.Did find a matching firmware on Dell's site and Firmware HQ....completely confused on the next step keep getting "invalid drive specification" errors probably (fat vs ntfs issue). Did try to follow instructions Dell everything falls apart on my part with step 5 & 6 Only way I can get a A: prompt is to use Win xp to create a ms-dos start-up disk 1st disk error burned at 2.4x 2nd disk error burned at 4x I know disk quality shouldn't be a issue. Thanks Steve
Shooter Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) Wanted as a test to try on my Laptop to see how it would do !! I'm not surprised to see that it worked Never any doubts with the program. I really don't want to have to use the laptop to do my burning tho. At least I've narrowed it down to the philips dvd8701 as the likely culprit. Now all I have to figure out how to update the firmware, to at least eliminate that. For my test (which was the 1st error - miscompares & unrecovered read errors) I used the same disk to create .iso / .mds and burn and verify at 2.4x.Time it took was 44 minutes and 32 minutes to verify. Not sure how that is for efficiency ?? LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Is that philips drive actually in a Dell PC (or did it at least come from a Dell PC) ? If not, that would explain why it won't accept the firmware update.

It actually has 2 DVD drives one for playing and one for burning (Philips) Thanks LUK Steve
