Power Calibration Area Error

Recommended Posts

Attached is a log of one of my tries at writing my video DVD. Source folder contains AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, created from DVD Flick. My error is "Power Calibration Area Error" and I let it go to about 11 tries and then canceled each time. I have tried writing at 6x speed, but don't know if my other settings are correct or not. I left most of them at their defaults.

Thanks for any help! Project is due for Christmas!!!

I 09:05:55 Destination Device: [0:0:0] DVDRW 20X20X12X 6A31 (D:) (ATA)

I 09:05:55 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: SONY-D21-00) (Speeds: 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x, 18x)

I 09:05:55 Write Speed: MAX

W 09:05:55 Write Speed Miscompare! - MODE SENSE: 24,930 KB/s (18x), GET PERFORMANCE: 9,972 KB/s (7.4x)

I 09:05:55 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 9,972 KB/s (7.4x)

Try other speeds available, leave out 6x and MAX

What is that drive (maker/model) that is shown as 20X20X12X? How old is? Try find an updated firmware for it.

A lens cleaning disc may help too.

Use quality discs, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden are recommended.

Thanks for your reply. There is something weird with this burner I have as it is working OK on my laptop. I tried 2x speed and got the same result (Power Calibration Area Error) - the Device tab in ImgBurn tells me it supports 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x and 18x...so I may try a few of those (but 6x definitely did not work on one try.) I do not know the maker of this DVD writer as my desktop PC was built for me, but it is older. There is no firmware update for it when using the Device Manager wizard to update. I believe it is IDE, not SATA, which indicates an older model, right? I'll keep checking things out, but I know it's my burner now. Thanks again.
