Miscompares vs Read Errors

I'm new at this. I can't seem to find definitions of "miscompare" and "Read Error". What are they? How are they different?

Well, a read error is where your drive can't read the disc (a physical/hard error).

 

As miscompare is where the drive has read the disc but the data it returned is different to what it should have returned.

Is a Read Error akin to a Parity Outer Failure (POF)?

Not sure I've ever scanned a disc that's had a read error during the verify phase or whatever, but yeah I would assume they're the same thing.
