burning a cd created image on dvd-r media

Hello,

 

I made some image files that were from a CD. I can then write those images to another CD. No problem. However, is it possible to write those image files to a DVD-R? When I try this (by accident or brain fart), the program hangs at the "writing lead in" stage. Is there a setting somewhere to change something so the program recognizes the media as a DVD and not a CD since the original image was created from a CD?
