MarcelB Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 When I burn an AVCHD movie on my DVD+R DL DVD with Imgburn, the program complete successfully but there is always an I/O error at about the middle of the DVD, probably when a file was burned to the layer break position. However, Imgburn completes succesfully with no error message. I have read guides about layer break but the program Imgburn does not offer me any way to modify how it works. In "settings", I have the parameters "Layer Break for DL Media" set to "Calculate optimal" and Imbburn does not provide any message related to that. What do I do wrong? When I burn DVD-VIDEO files(less then 4,7 gig) to a single layer DVD+R, everything is fine. I use a laptop Gateway NV79, processor Intel Core i7 M620 2,67GHz, 8gig of RAM,Windows 7 64 bits, with a DVD TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C, pilote version 6.1.7600.16385. LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Verify your burns. If your drive won't make decent burns on MKM-001-00 media, get yourself a decent external drive (normal size, not slimline) instead. You could try MKM-003-00 media instead of what you've got now.
MarcelB Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 Good news! I have used my older external drive "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GE20LU10 USB device" to burn the same movie on the same type of DVD+R DL DVD (Verbatim). Quite surprisingly, it works! Thanks for the advice. However, I would like to understand what is the difference between my slimline "TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C" and the older external drive. Should the recent slimline drive be burning accurately? Why it does not? ianymaty Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 It was observed in time that the slimline/laptop burners regardles of manufacturer have problems burning Dual Layer DVD's. With other type of discs seems to work but when it comes to burn a DVD+R DL they rarely produce a working disc. It's nice that you have an external to rely on.
MarcelB Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 Thank you so much for the explanation. It is good to know, even if technically, it is hard to understand why manufacturers of slim drive continue to manufacture drives unable to properly burn double layer DVDs. If I was one of them,. I would not like advices like this one in public forums. I hope they read forums and improve the quality of their drives... Cheers.
