GloryHound Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 My current drive only writes cds, so I am looking for a cheap external dvd writer drive. My purpose for these drives are to burn xbox games onto some 8x 8.5gb dual layer discs, so can you tell me which drive would be better, or if they both will not work? GloryHound Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Don't buy a slimline drive. What's wrong with them? Would they be ok if I only used them 4-5 times a month? I don't plan for heavy use, just the occasional one. Edited December 28, 2010 by GloryHound
ianymaty Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Listen to LIGHTNING UK!, and don't buy a slim burner, whatever they advertise. Do a search (ImgBurn forum is a great resource for bad burns caused by slimtype burners) and you'll find that regardles of manufacturer they are in general rubbish. Especialy, if you are planing to burn DVD+R DL with it, you are advised to change your plan before it's too late. Here are a few points to minimise the problems on burning dual layer discs and one of the point referes to avoid using a slim burner. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000
GloryHound Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 Thanks ianymaty, for saving me probably alot of time and headaches. I found another product, that's a bit more expensive but i think it could do the job: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0327591 So what about this product? If not this, can you please show me an external drive that would work?
ianymaty Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 It dosen't specify what actual drive it use. As I see arround, a good recommendation is one of the Optiarc AD-72xx series, pick one of them and find yourself a nice external (not fancy) enclosure for it.
