altralosix Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Greetings all. I have a SATA Lite-On DVD burner that I am using on a system I just built. Ever since this new install the drive gets stuck synchronizing cache and just continuously spins. I searched around and found this topic: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=15766 which I think applies to me perfectly as I have two hard drives in a RAID 0 array. Motherboard chipset is an AMD 790X / SB710. I don't want to get rid of my RAID array, so is this just a problem with this particular drive, or will this affect ANY DVD drive? I don't want to buy a new one just to have it do the same thing. If anyone can recommend a drive that will work with this chipset on RAID, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your help!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I honestly have no idea if it's drive specific... I'm thinking it's not. Get yourself a PCI/PCIe SATA card (Silicon Image chipset) and put your burner on that. You might find you can get away with enabling the 'Don't Use Immediate I/O' option in the settings as that seems to be what the RAID drivers have issues with. I assume you have the latest chipset/controller drivers from AMD or whoever installed yeah?
altralosix Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 It looks like "don't use immediate I/O" did the trick. Yes, up to date drivers and firmware. If there's any debug info you need from me let me know, otherwise I think this is solved, thanks!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Thanks but I've seen the debug info before. It just shows the drive/drivers claiming the operation is still in progress... forever and ever and ever!
