"Invalid Field in CDB" explanation

Hello all

 

I just would like to receive some explanation on what the error "Invalid Field in CDB" really means. I have no problems burning ISO files, except when using crappy Dual Layer media (but this is not the case right now, since i'm using Verbatim - see log below).

 

Also, additionally to providing some helpful information on what the error means, could it be a problem with my DVD recorder?

CDB is Command Descriptor Block.

 

Unless you're a programmer dealing with low level I/O stuff, that probably won't mean anything to you. (The error is for my benefit)

 

The 'Invalid field in' bit means exactly what it says, there's something wrong/unsupported/invalid about a field (value in a field) within said CDB.

 

Where you're concerned, it probably just means your drive doesn't support the book type commands. Not many drives with OEM firmware (in your case, Dell firmware) do.

 

If you're lucky, the drive will be configured so it always changes the book type to DVD-ROM - and with your drive/firmware, that can't be changed.
