Help Required - not sure if DVD is finalised?

Apologies if this had been covered before - I did do a search but what I found didn't appear relevant.

 

I wanted to create a DVD (I used Maxdata DVD-R, 8x)containing photos. The plan was to put it in our Sony BDP-S550 Blu-Ray player so that the family could watch them on the large-screen TV. I assumed all I needed to do was to create a data disc containing the .jpg files. The disc burnt OK and after burning, I could watch the photos on it using my PC. But when the disc was put in the Sony DVD player, it said "No Photos"... I tried the DVD in another TV with an inbuilt DVD player and it failed to read the disc also.

Is this a finalisation problem? If so, What do I need to do to finalise the disc post-burn, or is it now a coaster?

Hrmm, this is a tricky one. Perhaps there is a limit to how many pics you can have in the root directory? Some set top players go a little finicky when there are too many files in a folder. Also imgburn does always finalize any disc that you burn.

GSA-H62N seems to be a rather old burner

Oh, and you can try getting different media. I am not familiar with DVD-R (Disc ID: GSC003), brand name is not relevant, Disc ID is. Go for Verbatim +R discs, those have MCC dyes.

You might also like to rethink your choice of file system.

 

Look at the manual for your player and see which file systems it supports for reading photos from. Personally I'd try something like ISO9660 + Joliet. I certainly wouldn't use just UDF 2.60 as you have done.

Many thanks Rincewind and Lightning UK! for your help. Updated the burner's firmware, minimised the folder tree, and changed the file structure to ISO9660+Joliet and tried again - happy to report everything working, picures look good on the big screen.

I didn't even notice that my first burn used the UDF file system - this will teach me to be more careful.
