I'm using a program called 'DVD Slideshow'. After creating your slideshow with pictures, sound, etc., It automatically launches ImgBurn and creates a DVD.

It works great, except the DVD only plays on computers with DVD drive installed. It will not play on 3 different DVD only boxes I've tried. Is this software only designed to play on computers?...or is there some setting I'm missing to make it work on ANY dvd player?

Posted

It will at least give us an idea if imgburn burned your disc as merely a data disc, or dvd-video disc. As of right now there isn't enough information.

Also are you playing the disc in a DVD software player? Either PowerDVD or WinDVD (VLC doesn't really count, as it will play anything in any format).

Ah..now that's a good point!..Thank You...I believe it burned it as a data disk...It did created Audio and Video TS folders...Is there an option I'm missing that will burn this so I can just play it in both a standalone Dvd player...as well as a computer?

However...I noticed that an off the shelf 'DVD' movie also will show these subfolders as well...forgive me..but I'm new to burning DVD's and much more experienced with CD's.

Yes to PowerDVD as well as Windows Media Player.

A DVD-Video compliant disc is playable both on a computer with DVD playback software as well as stand alone players (provided your stand alone players can handle +-R discs).

Anyways, open the contents of your disc in explorer and list the directories you have on the disc. You should only have VIDEO_TS in the main directory and nowhere else. AUDIO_TS is optional and recent players couldn't care if you have or haven't an AUDIO_TS folder.

Ok.

Question 1: If I go to a store to buy a DVD disc, are there 2 types?...One that states it is 'DVD-Video compliant' ? The discs I'm using do not state this anywhere...they are simply DVD +-R discs.

Question 2: Remember that I am running software that creates a slideshow and then automatically launches IMGBurn. I can see it creating and .iso file as the 'input' file...and then injecting that information into IMBBurn...probably using 'scripts'?

Response to to directory creation: The DVD Slideshow program is creating an 'Audio_TS' folder...but it is always empty.

Summary: I can stop this Slideshow program before it automatically launches IMGBurn...with an ISO file. Can I simply take that .iso file and configure IMGBurn to create a 'watchable' DVD on any DVD player?..or do I need to purchase special DVD's from a store?

Sorry for the confusion, by DVD-Video compliant I mean a disc that has a VIDEO_TS folder with IFO,BUP,VOB files (AUDIO_TS is OPTIONAL). -+R discs these days are a none issues (except for Double Layered -R or +R discs, but thats not really important right now).

Your blank disc CAN be made into DVD-Video discs, or data discs it doesn't matter. Just like a CD-R can be either a data CD or standard CD-Audio disc you play in a stereo.

Question 2: Remember that I am running software that creates a slideshow and then automatically launches IMGBurn. I can see it creating and .iso file as the 'input' file...and then injecting that information into IMBBurn...probably using 'scripts'?

I don't know about scripts, but if whatever 'slideshow' utility you are using spits out an ISO, you can use imgburn to burn the ISO after.

Response to to directory creation: The DVD Slideshow program is creating an 'Audio_TS' folder...but it is always empty.

That is just a 'filler' for old players (first maybe second generation) that for some reason could not play DVDs without BOTH AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. Like I said these days AUDIO_TS is inconsequential and you can ignore it 99.999% of the time.

Summary: I can stop this Slideshow program before it automatically launches IMGBurn...with an ISO file. Can I simply take that .iso file and configure IMGBurn to create a 'watchable' DVD on any DVD player?..or do I need to purchase special DVD's from a store?

You can use Imgburn to burn the ISO to disc by clicking on the write image file to disc button.

Ok...so I have taken the .iso file and created a DVD...It completes with the nice little musical jingle.

But it still will only play on computers and not on 3 different standalone DVD players...2 of mine and my neighbors...What am I doing wrong?

Well I still want to see the log, to be sure imgburn burned it as a DVD-Video disc, if the log confirms this, it is possible there is a problem with your source files.

Again post the log please :)

Ok...I did a test burn only because I'm running low on DVD's...This is the log file created.

Well if you did a test burn then how does your disc even play on your computer? Technically your disc would be blank still.

Also these logs are empty, no activity at all.

Thats a small ISO...

I 20:24:43 Source File Size: 14,196,736 bytes

~13MB in size.

I also assume you still have a VIDEO_TS in the root directory of the disc. My only other guess is there is something wrong with your source files.

in the usa and some countries the dvd format is NTSC, in other countries they use PAL. look at the settings in the slide show program and make sure the setting for PAL or NTSC is correct for your region (and DVD player).

I know about those differences NTSC used in North American...PAL..in Europe..but I didn't think they would have those options...and guess what?..THEY DID...PROBLEM FIXED!...THE DEFAULT WAS PAL...I SET IT TO NTSC 4:3 ASPECT...YOU'RE AWESOME...GREAT JOB!
