BD-R 25 Blu-Ray Burn With Data > 22 GiB Does Not Work On PS3

Hi guys,

I have a weird problem here, that i can't seem to solve...

I'm backing up my Blu-Rays with AnyDVD HD (to folder structure) and then processing the ripped data with tsmuxer to only keep the movie to a Blu-Ray folder structure...

If the movie is below 25 GB (23.28 GiB / 25,000,000,000 bytes) I burn the folder structure (--> tsmuxer output) via Nero or ImageBurn to a BD-R 25 blank disc as UDF 2.5 format.

Now this works beautifully and the discs play perfectly on my PS3, IF (!!!) the movie (--> tsmuxer output folder size) is below app. 22 GiB, if the movie is bigger than 22Gib but still smaller than 23.28 GiB the burn will go through but will not play on my PS3...

Example:

(1.) My Blu-Ray rip of SHERLOCK HOLMES - movie only, Blu-Ray folder structure, no compression - is 22.5 GiB (24,257,915,880 bytes)

--> as far as I understand this should fit on a BD-R 25 as the data size is below 23.28 GiB

(2.) Burning the Blu-Ray folder structure (--> tsmuxer output) via Nero as UDF 2.5

--> results in an unsuccessful burn - although this has worked successfully 100 times with smaller movies

(3.) I burned the Blu-Ray folder structure (--> tsmuxer output) via ImageBurn - version 2.5.5.0, Mode 1 / 2048, UDF 2.5, recursive subdirectories

--> resulted in successful burn

(a.) inserting the movie into the PS3 results in the PS3 ejecting and inserting the disc again and then not play anything, the disc is not accessible as a data disc either

(b.) inserting the movie in Blu-Ray drive on Windows 7 results in the disc NOT autostarting - clicking on the drive which starts autoplay via Windows Media Player results in this error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disc was created in a manner that the Player does not support."

(c.) VLC also does not play the disc and outputs an error

(d.) Power DVD 10 does play the disc and also if you file browse to the main .m2ts, you can play that file manually

Can anybody explain to me why these discs with more data than app. 22 GiB are causing problems and do not play on the PS3 ?

Thanx for your help in advance !

- Mike

The discs that don't work, do they burn and verify OK? Please post a log from one of those burns (look in ImgBurn's Help menu and you'll find the previous logs).

@ mmalves: thanx for your reply

yes, these discs that don't work, burn and verify successfully in ImageBurn

here is the log from ImageBurn from the last burn that verified successful but does not work on my PS3 - again this problem (discs not working on my PS3) ONLY occurs if the data size is > app. 22 GiB:

@LIGHTNING UK!: thanx for your reply !

that was exactly the problem.

I updated to the newest firmware and now all burns work perfectly, I even just overburned a BD-R 25 with a movie with 25,015,938,128 bytes and the disc works flawlessly...

thanx again for your help, very much appreciated !
