gostek Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 (edited) I've just started using imgburn to create iso/mds backups of my DVD collection. I'm used to using Imgburn just for burning. So I made the first few rips using anydvd in the background and ripping to iso using Imgburn. But when I look at the .mds files in notepad they look like this: MEDIA DESCRIPTOR À X kº p kº Ä "ºj Ô *.ISO This doesn't seem right, does it? Shouldn't it just be plain text like a .cue sheet? I tried several times to burn the iso using the .mds file, and several times the burning failed on two different types of dvd media. Right from the start it threw several error messages up and couldn't start burning. Then just before I went to post this I tried it again and this time it is burning okay. Is this how the .mds files should look? And why was Imgburn giving me a hard time burning it? As a test earlier I made an iso/dvd rip using anydvd to do the ripping, and imgburn loaded the .dvd file just fine and burned it. Viewing the .dvd file in notepad looked normal, not all jumbled up like the .mds files. Imgburn just wouldn't burn using its own .mds file, but now as I type this it is burning it fine from the same .mds file. Does anybody know what is going on here? Edited June 5, 2011 by gostek
LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 MDS file aren't plain text files, they never have been. If you have a problem, please post the log - as per the pink box up the top

LIGHTNING UK! Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Ok, the MDS has nothing to do with this problem. Your drive is just having trouble writing to that disc. Try another full erase/format on it and then give it another go. After that I'd just use a different disc.
gostek Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 Okay, thanks very much for the quick reply. That's a relief, nothing to worry about then I guess. Much appreciated.
