Hi Guys;

I'm always confused by ImgBurn!...I rarely need to use burning software but have been told that this is the "Mutt's Nuts" so to speak.

I usually have no trouble burning Linux ISO Files, but this one is a "Normal" DVD.

I've tried two new "Minus RW" disks but got this same message each time.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for that but I've tried to install the firmware, it says "If the file location doesn't exist, it will be created"....well it isn't!

All I get is a DOS Window saying the location doesn't exist!

How do I find out what the current firmware in my drive is?

It plays OK, and to be honest, I think it's more likely that I've either asked ImgBurn to do something with an unsuitable file, or I'm using the wrong option in the program.

All I want to do is burn a ".vob" file to a DVD-RW........do I really have to go find a different program?

I found the firmware version in your log:

I 17:32:37 Destination Device: [0:0:0] PIONEER DVD RW DVR-106D 1.05 (G:) (ATA)

As for the exe, it is a self extracting file. You should have gotten a screen like this...

You should have two files extracted an exe, and another file.

I am certain this has to be the correct firmware, because I took your model (DV-R106D) and searched it on firmwarehq. Unless someone else can figure that part out.

Ok well it seems you are wanting to burn a DVD-VIDEO disc right? If that is the case, make sure that it is NOT just the .vob file itself. You must have a VIDEO_TS folder with VOB,BUP,IFO files. Imgburn WILL recognize that as a DVD-Video format directory, and make any changes only to the FS of the disc if needed (ISO9660+UDF1.02).

Thanks Rincewind, kind of you to take such trouble!

This is what I get:-

Followed by this:-

The fact that the DOS Screen refers to "ver1.90E" rather mystifys me.

Think you must be right, the file I'm trying to burn is just designated as ".vob" there are no other files. :(

Ok if you only have the vob file, then you will not be able to produce a valid DVD-Video disc. Your only other option is to download DVDFlick (it is free), and see if it can take your vob and re-convert to a proper DVD-Video files (VOB,BUP,IFO), unless you have the original source still?

As for the firmware update, I am a little confused myself as to WHY it is not working.

Possible reasons, is that you might not have administrative access? Or perhaps your burner is setup as a slave drive, and not master? That is if it is an IDE and not SATA.

Thats all I can think of at the moment, but don't worry yet there are always other members here and hopefully they might see something that I missed, concerning your firmware.

I do have it as an "mpg" file...is that the same as "mpeg 2"?

I tried to install it using the "as administrator" option, so it's not that.

You are probably right about it possibly being a slave, 'cos the system was built for me using an Asus P5Q3 de-luxe WiFi board (2007) and a samsung spinpoint 500GB SATA HDD, bvut the optics were out of my old machine circa 2003 so they are definitely PATA.

Well, .mpg could either be mpeg1 or mpeg2. If you have the 'original' mpg, you can still use that and convert it using DVDFlick. Note, if you merely renamed your .mpg file to .vob, that still won't really work. It specifically has to be converted to a VOB (Video Object file), it contains different tracks if available and subtitles. The IFO files contain chapter information as well as regional code, BUP files are just backups of IFO files. These files are contained in a VIDEO_TS directory.

Ok, since you confirmed it is PATA then you will have to open up your computer physically and check the jumper settings as well as reconnecting it to a different IDE port if changing the jumper to master conflicts. After that try again with your firmware.
